Go Surf LA

No call no show from the coach??? Booked one reservation a week in advance for a group lesson for 2:15pm. Arrived at the exact spot I was instructed to at 1:50pm and saw no one in sight. Called the phone number listed on the website at 2:05pm to make sure I was where I was supposed to be and my called was rejected. They immediately texted me asking if I was calling for surf lessons. I responded immediately by saying I already made a reservation but didn’t see anyone. 14 minutes later: “Hold on, I’ll check with the coach.” 5 minutes go by. At this point it’s 10 minutes after my lesson was supposed to have started so I simply say “If the lesson is cancelled, please just let me know now so my refund can be processed and I don’t have to wait around.” 3 minutes later they text and say they’ll be refunding me. I came to LA on vacation and won’t get another opportunity to try surfing for a long time. Therefore, I tried to pick a place that seemed professional and reputable. Turns out, this is not that place. Had they told me the lesson would be canceled even a day earlier, my girlfriend and I would have been able to plan to spend our one allotted day at the beach doing other fun things instead of preparing for a surf lesson that never happened. Had I not contacted them myself, I wonder if they would have ever realized a lesson was scheduled at all. The only thing keeping this review from being a one star rating is that they did process the refund quickly. However, even though I got the email confirmation of the refund quickly, the email stated that the funds would be refunded to my bank account “up to 15 working days” later. TL;DR: Surf anywhere else. Edit: the morning after I left this review they attempted to call my cell phone at 8 in the morning, presumably to confront me about it. I, of course, did not answer.

Go surf la is fantastic! I booked a private surf lesson this past weekend and Oscar was our instructor! He is a wonderful teacher and made they lesson fun and taught me and my husband a lot of new skills. Oscar helped us correct and fix our pop ups, taught us turns and worked with us on catching green waves. Since our lesson we both have been able to use and practice all the skills we were taught! This lesson definitely helped us move forward in our surfing skills and we are excited to keep learning!

The Go Surf LA team is wonderful. Responsive. Flexible. Easy to communicate with. Loved our instructor - Jared. Super patient. Explained everything from history of surfing, to how best to paddle, balance, get up on the board, which waves to take and when, and etc. He went into the water with my 12-year old and I and was very patient while we failed miserably many times. Was very encouraging the whole time until we finally got up a couple of times! We will definitely be taking more lessons. Highly recommend this team and Jared.

Prior to my lessons with Go Surf LA, I hadn't surfed before. After a few lessons with these guys, my skills really improved. They did a great job teaching the basics, built up my confidence, and made it a fun experience! All the folks were friendly and positive. It felt like they were very invested in my experience. I had lessons with Jared, Justin, Andres, and Elliot. All of them were fantastic. I recommend this company to anyone who wants to learn or practice surfing in LA!
